Let it snow...to the Christmas tree farm we go!

Now that Autumn has passed, we begin to celebrate the Christmas of 2007. (yes, I said 2007, can you believe it?)

The big day began with Owen's hockey practice at 10:30, while Mom, Dad, Ashton and Grace watched from the bleachers. (actually Ashton explores the entire ice arena and we try to keep track of her as best we can) Once hockey was over, it was out into the snow and up to the Creamery Cafe in Isanti for lunch with Aunt Jody and Uncle Craig. The food was excellent and if you ever make your way up highway 65 and want to stop for a great meal, swing into downtown Isanti and enjoy the warm small town feel.
After lunch we headed up to Bradford, to get the tree at the Amp Tree farm for our ninth straight year. This year was quite different from all the others, in that it actually looked like Christmas or winter due to the gorgeous blanket of freshly falling snow. The snow however made getting the kids ready alot more work, but it all paid off as we watched them run and play in the snow looking for the perfect Christmas tree. After about ten or fifteen minutes tops, Owen spotted a tree that was somehow better than all the others and absolutely had to have it.
After cutting and loading the tree on the snowmobile trailer, we headed towards home in the pretty heavy snow by this point. Once home, it was time to drag the tree into the living room which would soon be awash with needles and melting snow. A long story short, after some battling, the tree was relatively straight and at least 85% stable in the tree stand. After waiting for the branches to relax and watering the tree it was time for the lights. ( I think about 8 or 9 sets, which is enough for me and my sap filled hands and arms)

Shawna managed to get Ashton and Grace off to bed for the night and let Owen stay up late to decorate the tree. Owen was very excited about this, so much that sometimes I wonder at which point we as adults lose that sense of joy and wonder that children so easily possess. Shawna let Owen decide where all the decorations would go and it turned out perfect, or maybe it was just more fun to not care and watch Owen bubble over with excitement. All in all, it was a day to remember, a day that will only happen once and I would not change one thing about it. Appreciate and embrace each moment, before the present becomes the past. God Bless you and yours this Christmas Season!
